Bangkok Encounter

Among the extraordinary encounters I had in Bangkok was a kid who sold roses on the street.
I turned down his roses several times.
He was never pushy—always calm and polite—so I eventually made him an offer: I’d give him the price of a rose without actually taking one, provided he kept the 50 baht for himself.
I handed him a 1,000-baht note, and he rummaged through his small pouch to get my change.
Later, I realized he had given me back... ten 100-baht notes 🙁
The next evening, when he came by again, I explained his mistake and gave him the 50 baht.
The following evening, he stopped by and greeted me with a lovely smile.
And the evening after that, he stopped at my table—where a game of Connect 4 was sitting—and asked to play a round against me.
I won.
He asked for a rematch: he crushed me!
We played again: he actually guided me, showing me how to beat him!
We played once more: he was too good and beat me again.
For the final game, he undeniably let me win 🙂
Then he asked Nut, one of the waiters, for a game.
He won again!
The three of us chatted for a while; I was reassured to learn that he went to school and was doing well there.
On Monday, when I took over my classroom, I was quite moved to find a copy of the game in one of the cupboards.
